Marvelous Marvy: An Edo-born artist in the Afrobeats scene

Marvelous Temitayo Imabeh, professionally known as Marvy, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter of Esan heritage. She was born on October 26, 1993, in Lagos State to parents from Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Marvy spent parts of her early childhood in Edo State before continuing her education in different parts of Nigeria. She attended Africa International College in Abuja for her secondary education and later studied at the American University of Nigeria in Yola, Adamawa State, where she graduated in 2015.

Following the completion of her studies, Marvy relocated to Houston, Texas, where she has been based since the late 2010s. Houston’s large Nigerian population and active Afro-influenced music scene provided an environment that supported her continued involvement in music and creative development.

Marvy began pursuing music professionally in 2016. Her early activities included performances at university events, small showcases, and participation in local creative circles. During this period, she focused on developing her songwriting and performance skills while drawing inspiration from a range of African and international artists.

Her music reflects a mix of Afrobeats, alternative, and R&B influences, shaped by both her Nigerian background and her experiences in the United States. She has cited artists such as Asa, Lauryn Hill, and Burna Boy as influences on her approach to music and storytelling.

Currently based in Houston, Marvy continues to release music and build her career, maintaining a sound that reflects her personal experiences and cross-cultural influences.
