Chinda, Inojie, others for stage play ‘Philomena’

Nigerian theater lovers in the city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, will again be treated to four nights of brilliant storytelling and exhilarating performances as veteran Nollywood actors including Monalisa Chinda, Charles Inojie, Francis Duru, Ejike Asiegbu, Don Kester and Tammy Abusi, tell the phenomenal story of ‘Philomena’ on stage.

Philomena’s first and second showings were well received and applauded due to the lessons and the spontaneity behind the characters.

Witty, satiric, Philomena is a stage play which chronicles the experiences of three characters — Wesley, a failed journalist; Philomena, a retired prostitute; and Area, a frustrated teacher.

The organisers, in a statement, said the play will hit the theater again at the Atlantic Hall, Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt from December 29, 2022, till January 1, 2023.

Speaking ahead of the event, Chinda, the executive producer of the project, expressed excitement at the requests for the stage play.

“Witty, satiric, the lessons, the spontaneity behind the characters make it a must-see. Philomena; Interview with A Prostitute’, promises the magic of the peerless play following a very successful showing in Port Harcourt in February and Abuja in July,” she said.

‘Philomena’ was produced by China, Zack Iniyedo, Bimbo Manuel, and Rekiya Ibrahim Attah.

“The project”, the statement further stated, “was inspired by an actual interview Manuel had with a stripper and is a story that was demanded to be told with humour, satire and anecdotes.”

It added that the stage play is sponsored by the River state government through the ministry of tourism and culture, and powered by the Nigerian Breweries Plc.
