Barcelona vs Inter: Xavi describes clash as ‘final’

By Efosa Taiwo

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has described his side’s Champions League match against Inter Milan as a “final” which his side must win to avoid elimination from the competition.

The two European giants will clash at the Camp Nou on Wednesday with Barcelona to crash out of the competition if they lose and Bayern Munich pick up a point against bottom-placed Viktoria Plzen.

“We need to go out for everything and need to be positive,” said Xavi at a pre-match press conference ahead of the clash.

“We have to try to not feel the pressure and enjoy the game.”

Xavi is optimistic that playing in front of a packed stadium will inspire his team to victory as they seek to survive a second consecutive drop to the Europa League after also crashing out at the group stage last season.

“It’s an amazing scene seeing the Camp Nou full, it’s something to enjoy and if they win, even better. If they win the match it will change the dynamic of the group,” Xavi said.

“We’re expecting similar to what we saw in the other leg; Inter Milan are very defensive, normally very far back with their medium back.

“We have been working hard in our training to work on their block and I think we’ve improved from the Barca of the last 15 minutes in Milan.”

While Barcelona sit on top of the La Liga and unbeaten from their eight matches, their form in the Champions League has been poor having won one out of three matches.
