.Ogun road accident

The newly installed Onitele of Itele, in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Ademola Asorota, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the House of Representatives, Abeokuta South, Afolabi Afuape, among others risk being sent to jail over their alleged refusal to obey a judgment of an Ogun State High Court, delivered by Justice Babasola Ogunade.

Others cited for contempt are Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun; Mr. Jimoh Ojubanire, Mr. Kazeem Ajiboye, Mr. Azeez Ajiboye, Mr. Fatai Asabiyi, Mr. Saheed Arowolo, Mr SansaliuBamishebi, Mr. Oluyemi Onifade, Mr. Saibu Bamishebi and Mr. Taofeek Bumishebi.

Justice Ogunade had in a judgment delivered on June 16, 1995, declared that under the hereditary customs and traditions of Itele Town, Ogun State only the Adogun-Atele family comprising four ruling houses namely, Imidawo, Oosa, Ogunrounbi, and Alagbeji were eligible to the stool of Onitele of Itele-Awori.

The judge held that the first defendant in the suit, Alhaji Jimoh Arowolo, not being a descendant of Adogun-Atele or belonging to any of the ruling houses was not entitled to hold the title of Oba of Itele.

The judge granted the reliefs of Adogun Atele and, consequentially, Alhaji Jimoh Arowolo was removed, and his appointment and installation were declared null and void.

Meanwhile, Pa Nurudeen Akapo, Chief Taoreed Dada, Mr. Sunday Owotolu and Alhaji Monsuru Yusuf, had approached the Ogun State High Court seeking an order of restorative mandatory injunction reversing or voiding the approval of Ademola Asorota as the Onitele of Itele, in violation of several orders of the courts.

The defendants in the suit HCT/503/2020 are Ademola Asorota, Saheed Arowolo, Kazeem Ajiboye, Taofeek Bamishebi, the Olota of Ota, Oba Kabiru Obalanlege, Ogun State Governor, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ogun State, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Ado/Ido/Ota LGA.

They are in the suit praying the court to declare the installation of Ademola Asorota as Onitele of Itele null and void, same having occurred during the pendency of the suit challenging his claim to the throne of Onitele of Itele.
