The Executive Chairman, Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, in the state to ensure that all government revenues are paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund, CRF, as stipulated by law.
Mrs. Adzape-Orubibi also advised that the use of Point of Sale, POS, machines for the collection of revenue should be adhered to, in order to check loopholes in revenue collection as well as ensure proper documentation.
The Executive Chairman who gave the advise when she received the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Examinations Board, Mr. Isaac Hon and his management team in Makurdi assured that the Service under her leadership would continue to work tirelessly to ensure that there were no leakages in the state government’s revenue.
She noted that the Service was working round the clock in that regard and also consolidating all government revenues into the CRF which according to her was a yard stick “by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission in determining the horizontal revenue sharing formula for states in the country.”
Mrs. Adzape-Orubibi said “it is important as mandated by the law that all revenues passed through the consolidated revenue account for analysis before 50 percent is returned to the MDAs designated as essential service providers.”
This the Chairman noted would help in boosting the states share of the Federal Allocation.
She urged the Executive Secretary to always endeavour that all monies paid as examination fees and other payments collected by the board from students were done through the use of POS, and assured of real time remittance of the percentage due to the board.
She promised smooth collaboration between the Service and the Examination Board to deliver on their important mandate of conducting examinations for schools in the state.
Earlier, Mr. Hon commended Mrs. Adzape-Orubibi for the reforms she introduced at the BIRS adding that the board had previously enjoyed a very smooth collaboration with Service during her first term in office and expressed confidence that her reappointment would create room for more collaboration and maximum cooperation from the board.
