Members of Atobaje community, Agege, Lagos have expressed joy over the recent sensitization programme on diabetes brought to them by Lions Clubs International, Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club, District 404B2 

Speaking on the event themed:” Diabetes sensitization & testing programme,” Hon.  Adeniyi Adelekan noted that the coming of the Lions Clubs has helped dispelled some of the myths the community believed about diabetes and high blood pressure.

His words;” I am so happy to see the programme brought here for my people. Ignorance and late detection kill faster than the disease itself. We lost a woman here two weeks ago , from HBP and diabetes complications  And most of us think someone killed her while she died of little thing that could have been avoided. This sensitization event be an eye opener.” Hon. Adelakan said. 

For, Mr. Akeem Adejare, Lions Clubs saved his life. ” We are grateful to the Lions club for saving my life. I have low level of sugar but never knew. This sensitization has made me understood why I always feel light headed.” Adejare responded. 

On his part, the president of Lagos Metropolitan Lions  Club Dstrict 404B2,   Kingsley Nwoke, revealed that the reserved nature of the community members in seeking medical was one of the reasons the sensitization programme was held.

His words :” When we did our community need assessment to understand what the needs of the citizens, We discovered they needed to be sensitized on the dangers of diabetes. We thank God that the advocacy and mobilization we did made them to come out for the programme.” said, Lion Nwoke. 

According to Nurse Jennifer Onwuta, it was proper members of Atobaje community sought proper medical attention.

“The general well being of the community is pretty low. So far,  we have attended to more than 120 participants. Among them were those with low blood pressure, high level of sugar and vice versa. Since,  we only came for sensitization, we refer those with serious  cases to seek good medical attention. Nurse Onwuta noted.
