Akintayo Jabar is a data scientist, community leader, and visionary driving transformative change in Africa. Armed with a Master’s degree in Information Technology, specializing in Applied Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the prestigious University of Lagos, Akintayo is at the forefront of leveraging data-driven innovation for positive impact.
Akintayo has over 7 years experience working as a software engineer and data scientist. He has contributed to projects on financial inclusion, insurance and energy access. He worked with an impact fintech organization, Hiveonline and built an innovative credit scoring system, the “Reputation System,” for an impact fintech organization. The Reputation System assessed creditworthiness, providing underserved cashew farmers access to formal banking credit. Integrated into a cooperative management application system, this system has empowered farmers to secure financial resources, driving economic growth and transforming livelihoods. The system’s success led to its deployment across three African countries, championing financial inclusion. He also played a key role in a cross-selling recommendation project for Old Mutual Insurance, a leading insurance company in Africa. Akintayo was part of the team that developed a cutting-edge recommendation engine for their insurance products. The recommendation engine’s success led to its replication across the company’s sub-Saharan markets, streamlining operations and enhancing customer experiences.
He is also a co-organizer of AI Saturdays Lagos, a non-profit community-led study group democratizing access to AI tools and concepts.
