How Adejoke Ogundare is redesigning African SMEs

Vella Finance, one of Africa’s rising fintech innovators, recently rolled out a major product face change that has been widely praised for its clean design, improved usability, and customer-first approach.

At the heart of this transformation was Adejoke H. Ogundare, who served as a Product Manager and UI/UX Designer during the critical redesign phase.

Adejoke played a key role in reshaping the product interface, creating user flows, and ensuring the platform was not only functional but also visually compelling and intuitive for its users.

Her design work helped transform Vella’s financial tools into an interface that feels modern, trustworthy, and tailored to the needs of SMEs.

“Designing for SMEs requires more than aesthetics, iit’s about making financial tools simple enough to use every day, yet robust enough to handle complex operations” Adejoke explained. “This redesign was about giving businesses clarity, confidence, and a smoother digital experience.”

Vella Finance has built its reputation as a SME-focused financial infrastructure provider, offering tools for local and cross-border payments, revenue management, and collections.

While it initially concentrated on cross-border payments, the company later pivoted to include cryptocurrency transactions and SME banking services, positioning itself as a complete solution for businesses across Africa.

The product transformation was guided by Vella’s leadership team, including Mark Afolabi (CEO), Tolu Adedayo (COO), Segun Fagbami (CPO), and Gabriel Ajenifuja (CTO). Together with Adejoke’s design expertise, they delivered a platform that set a new benchmark for fintech usability in Africa.

The redesign has been described by early users as “sleek, practical, and empowering”, demonstrating how thoughtful design can elevate trust and adoption in financial technology.
