By Ogalah Ibrahim

The Katsina State PDP Senatorial primaries has been completed without qualms unlike that of the House of Representatives and State Assembly whose results are yet to be officially announced due to some unresolved issues.

The PDP senate ticket winners are: Senator Ahmed Kaita, representing Katsina North Senatorial Zone, Dr Shehu Garba Matazu, representing Katsina South Senatorial Zone, and Sirajo Aminu Makera, representing Katsina Central Senatorial Zone.

Kaita, who currently represents Katsina North Senatorial Zone of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 9th Senate won the zone’ s ticket unopposed.

The Daura Senator only recently defected from the ruling party, APC to the PDP based on irreconcilable differences between him and the Katsina Governor, Aminu Bello Masari led APC in the state.

In Katsina central senatorial zone, Sirajo Aminu Makera clinched the senate ticket ahead of his two fellow contenders, Musa Mohammed Sada and Gambo Hamisu.

Sirajo, a former General Manager of the Katsina Housing Authority polled 213 votes to beat his closest challenger, Gambo Hamisu who scored 78 votes.

Speaking with the press after the result declaration, Sirajo promised to do a lot for his constituency if elected as senator in 2023.

In Katsina South Senatorial Zone, Dr Shehu Garba Matazu secured 267 votes to defeat his main challenger, Sani Anani who secured 86 votes.

Dr. Matazu was a three-time member of the House of Representatives from Musawa/Matazu federal constituency.

The 2023 PDP flag bearer for the Katsina Central Senatorial Zone, Sirajo Aminu thanked God for making the event  peaceful. He also commended his fellow contenders for their spirit of sportsmanship and resolve to work together with him towards winning the seat in 2023.

He said: “My opponents fought very well and they have been very understanding. They have accepted the outcome and agreed to work with me. You can see that even before the result was announced they were already congratulating me.

“I thanked everybody that played any role in this event. I hope this will lead to PDP winning election from state to federal level come 2023 Insha’ Allah.

“As for my constituency, if I eventually become their senator, I assure them that I am going to do a lot for them.”

Similarly, Senator Kaita  expressed gratitude to God for the ticket. He equally commended the delegates and the PDP family for the confidence reposed in him.

Kaita noted that since he joined the party, he has been receiving tremendous support from them. He promised to represent the zone effectively if he is returned in the 2023 election.
