The Chief of  Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya,  has harped on training and retraining of all Army  personnel, with a view to improving  troops’ commitment and efficiency in the  ongoing operations to restore peace and stability in troubled parts of the country.

He stated that already, the training undergone by personnel of the Nigerian Army, had recorded successes in their operations.

Speaking on ‘maintaining the sanctity of families in the Barracks: The role of the RSM’, at the closing ceremony of the  2022 Regimental Sergeant Majors,RSMs Convention held at Nebo hall, headquarters of the Nigeria Army Ordnance Corps, Abati  barracks , Ojuelegba, Lagos, the COAs,  urged  the RSMs to ensure that discipline and regimentation in the Nigerian Army was not compromised.

Noting that the RSMs  played important roles in the Nigerian Army: in the area of command and control, maintaining ethics and traditions of the army , as well as regimentation, he therefore charged them to  regulate and maintain good moral conduct amongst soldiers, their families and the barracks community.

He said: “This convention is part of the training they undergo as RSMs. One of the four cardinal principles of my command philosophy is training because there is no alternative to it .So ,we will continue to train and improve on what we do.

“Our training cuts across all spheres and ranks from the private soldiers to the RSMs,  to the second  Lieutenant and  the Generals.  That is what accounts for some of the successes in our operations.  The overall aim is to improve on our competencies particularly in the area of regimentation, discipline and maintenance of barracks sanctity and barrack life,” he said.
