Members All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue state Thursday trooped out in their numbers to vote for their preferred candidates in the State House of Assembly and governorship primaries of the party slated for May 26, at the various Council Wards across the state.
It would be recalled that the party in the state had opted for direct primaries to elect all candidates of party ahead of the general elections.
However, as at 5pm the officials that were saddled with the responsible of conducting the elections were yet to arrive the voting centers. Prospective voters were seen waiting patiently to exercise their franchise.
One of the voters and elder of the party in the Council Ward, Mr. Alexander Nambe who said they defiled the morning rain to participate in the process noted that their sacrifice was not too much to have their say in the process.
He said: “We heard that the officials that would conduct the election went to get the materials for the elections. So we are prepared to wait for them to come because we want to ensure that we vote for our preferred candidates.
“It is a sacrifice that is not too much to make in order to ensure that we vote for our candidates, that is why we are all waiting for the officials to arrive”
Another voter, who identified himself as Joseph said he received information that the election had been put off and rescheduled for Friday. “They are rumouring that the election may not hold today, Thursday because the officials will not arrive on time and will also not be be able to deploy materials across the state since the leaders opted for direct primaries which is not an easy process if the right thing will be done.”
When contacted, the Secretary of the Primary Election Committee for Benue state, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim said the committee members were still on their way to Makurdi for the elections.
“We are still in our way to Makurdi for the elections but when we arrive we will address the stakeholders in the state,” he said.
