People in most parts of Africa make Ankara fabric clothing. However, the fabrics were not designed by Africans. It originated in Europe. The Dutch made Ankara fabrics for Africans. The Ankara was believed to have been brought to Africa as a gift by West African men who had enlisted in Dutch colonial armies in the 19th century.
