A sociocultural and intelligence group, Yoruba Security Group (YSG) has condemned with strong voice, the attack allegedly carried out at Chief Sunday Igboho’s residence by security operatives.
The group, in a statement released to the press, stated their shock at which the unwarranted attack was melted on a freedom fighter.
According to a statement signed by the groups spokesperson, Dr. Adeleke Otunuga and Mr. Kamil Lamidi, it stated,
“In the early hours of July 1, 2021, we all awoke to a rude shock: a condemnable attack on the residence of Chief Sunday Igboho.
“The perpetrators according to report, have been confirmed to be agents of the Federal government working in cahoots with others. Innocent men and women lost their lives in that attack, and many were whisked away.
“It is shocking that despite the repeated violence and carnage unleashed by armed militants on the Yoruba nation, not a single perpetrator has been brought to justice.
Otunuga noted that while the federal government has not really impressed, by stemming the tide of kidnappings, banditry, and terrorism in the region, it has been quick to persecute those who have dared to speak out about the government’s gross negligence and dereliction of duty.

He also stated that the failure of the government to curb the spate of killings, kidnapping, rape, and plunder of properties of the Yoruba people by bandits, or at least put in action plans to secure the country undoubtedly, drives the speculation that, perhaps, the federal government is either allegedly sponsoring or harboring these criminal elements.
“The over-the-night attack on the residence of peaceful activists whose only crime is to demand for the safety of the lives and property of their kith and kin, is yet another testimony that there is nothing democratic about this administration.
“The spate of atrocious attacks on innocent Nigerians by this government is unprecedented; not even under a military regime has the government ever been so brazen in their quest to silence voices of reasonable dissent.
“The Yoruba Security Group (YSG) hereby condemns in very unambiguous terms the government’s attack on democracy and free speech in Nigeria and affirms our unwavering support not just for Chief Sunday Igboho but also for every individual and group with a mission to enhance the security of lives and property within Yorubaland and across Nigeria.
“We hereby call on the human rights community and indeed the international community to assist in sending clear signals to this government that repression of the citizenry belongs in the dark age of military dictatorship, and also ensure that this government is made to pay for its crimes against humanity.”
