Police foil hoodlums clash in Lagos

Police in Lagos State, on Monday, foiled preliminary violence in Mile 12 and Owode-Elede area of the state.

Eye witnesses’ account said the incident occurred at about 10 am around Mile 12 under the bridge when some suspected miscreants from Mile 12,  Adekunle and Owode – Elede axis were noticed pursuing one another with dangerous weapons.

A trader, Madam Kolawole Aminat said the incident caused apprehension within the area as many traders hurriedly parked their wares while commuters scampered for safety.

She said people made telephone calls to their relatives to avoid the axis while vehicular activities were disrupted for some time.

According to her, the area was initially calm as business and vehicular activities were under control when suddenly, the suspected miscreants emerged from nowhere wielding dangerous weapons. In her words, “thank God for the proactiveness of Mile 12 Policemen who rose to the occasion and prevented the suspected miscreants from unleashing terror. I was around the bridge transacting business when the atmosphere changed but we managed to escape unhurt,” she said.

Another eyewitness, Alfa Nurudeen Monsuru said he was about alighting from a commercial bus when he sighted the rancour, “I jumped out of the bus and ran for safety. However, I saw Policemen and soldiers arresting suspects and whisked them away,”

Vanguard gathered that the arrest was extended to the Owode-Elede axis where three suspected hoodlums were arrested.

At press time, normalcy has returned to the area but the number of arrested suspects could not be ascertained.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command CSP Muyiwa Adejobi could not be reached at press time.
