Akwa Ibom State Government has fixed September 21, 2020, for the State-owned University, College of Education and public primary schools to commence processes for the resumption of academic activities, while state-owned secondary schools and Polytechnic will resume for full academic activities on September 28 and October 5 respectively.

The State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, made this known to newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting today, Friday, September 18, 2020, at Government House, Uyo.

The State Executive Council, according to the information helmsman, has also directed that private schools in the state commence preparations for resumption on September 21, 2020, with the condition of strict compliance with COVID-19 protocol, which must also be reviewed with parents.

The Commissioner clarified that the primary school’s resumption, is only for the Primary 6 pupils, in preparation for the Common Entrance examination.

Hear him: “Primary schools are to commence processes for resumption for Primary six pupils only on the 21st of September, 2020. This is to aid them to prepare for the Common Entrance examination. Public secondary schools are to reopen on the 28th of September, 2020, while private schools are to commence processes for their resumption from the 21st of September. All private schools must ensure full compliance with the government-set COVID-19 protocol and review the same with parents.

The Akwa Ibom State University will commence processes for the resumption of academic activities on the 21st of September, 2020, while the state-owned polytechnic will resume for full academic activities on the 5th of October. The State College of Education in Afaha Nsit will commence preparation for resumption on the 21st of September also.”

On infrastructure, Comrade Ememobong said the State Executive Council has directed the immediate commencement of construction works on IBB Avenue in Uyo.

He further revealed that the contract has been awarded and that all is set for the project to kick-off, affirming that the State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Charles Udoh, has received express directive of the Council to ensure immediate commencement of work to start on the flood-plagued IBB Avenue.

Ememobong said the Executive Council has congratulated the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko Esq., and wished him well in his legal endeavours, as it acknowledged receipt of the notice of his appointment as the first Live Bencher from Akwa Ibom State.
