A digital agritech firm, Farmcrowdy Group has launched a new subsidiary agro platform called Farmgate Africa. The new technology-driven agro-trading platform for agro commodities was unveiled yesterday in Lagos.

At a briefing held in Farmcrowdy’s main office in Lekki, Lagos, the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder, Farmcrowdy Group, Onyeka Akuma in a brief introductory speech disclosed that the Farmgate Africa is established as a subsidiary platform to help the mother company Farmcrowdy drive the growth of agriculture in the country.
He said; “We are establishing this new aggregate outfit as a subsidiary of Farmcrowdy to drive the growth of agriculture not just in Nigeria but on the continent. We have also managed to use the resources we were able to gather from both investors and supporters to put together in the business, to drive food production on the continent. Our aim for doing this is to do all the things that will make a farmers life better in the country. However, this does not in any way affect Farmcrowdy’s operations rather; it will make it better and boost the agric value chain of the country.”
Kenneth Okonkwo, the Managing Director of Farmgate Africa while speaking about the Farmgate model, opportunities available and future plans of the new platform, enumerated four core areas that Farmgate Africa are harping as an aggregator to boost agro economy in Nigeria. These areas comprising farm productivity, access to finance, market access and product losses according to him, is what Farmgate Africa will be doing to help farmers produce more at less stress.
