Dutse – The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, Mr Bala Senchi, says the restriction of movements during elections starts from the midnight of Friday, except those on essential duties.

The death toll from violence linked to the vote meanwhile increased from 39 to 47, according to the Situation Room umbrella group of civil society election monitors. AFP

Senchi warned on Friday that the police and other security agencies would not hesitate to clamp down on any person or persons trying to violate the order.

“The Jigawa State Police Command has observed with dismay the rampant movement of people in the state during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, despite the announcement of restriction of such movements by the command.

“Indeed, the movements are seen as threats and capable of putting the electoral process in jeopardy,’’ he said in a statement.

Senchi, therefore, advised people to abide by the order and avoid any act capable of disrupting the peaceful conduct of the elections.

“We call on the entire people of Jigawa State to strictly abide by the rules and regulations governing elections to ensure peaceful conduct throughout the state,’’ he said. (NAN)
