PROFESSOR EMMANUEL OSIKHUEMEH ALUYOR

Established by Edo State government in 2016, the university received its license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) as the 41st state university and 142nd in Nigeria.

He said, “Edo University Iyamho, in its three years of existence, has achieved great feats in many areas. Edo University Iyamho was ranked as the best state owned university and third among the 160 universities in Nigeria in the Open Educational Resources (OEF) ranking conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2018.

“Edo University Iyamho is richly equipped with modern scientific teaching equipment and facilities. The university boasts of an advanced learning environment as it leads in the provision and utilization of enhanced instructional learning materials.

“Edo University Iyamho is the first and only medical training institution in Nigeria with an ANATOMAGE TABLE which was commissioned some time ago. An Anatomage table is the most technologically advanced anatomy visualization system in the world for anatomy education.

“The university has been adopted by many of the world’s leading medical schools and happens to be one of four medical training institutions in Nigeria with Power Lab Systems for teaching Physiology and Pharmacology. Similarly, our medical clinical skills laboratory which is now fully operational, competes with other leading Medical Schools in the continent.

“Our classrooms are fitted with multimedia facilities with a few smart boards which are about the most modern digital instructional equipment for lecture delivery in temperature controlled classrooms.

“Edo University Iyamho is the first university in Nigeria and indeed West Africa to acquire the CANVAS Learning Management System (LSM)”.

Aluyor disclosed that the university will continue to insist on quality of staff which, he said, “is our strongest point” even as he added that the university will be producing its first set of graduates in August.

Visitor to the university and governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, while addressing the Founder’s Day ceremony, set a new target for staff and students of the institution, saying that his administration’s vision for the university, “is to become a world class university in ranking”.

The occasion was marked with two public lectures. The Minister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu, spoke on ‘Water Sanitation and Hygiene for Sustainable Development’, while the Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Benin, Prof Eddy Erhagbe, spoke on the topic, ‘Democracy and Meeting the Needs of Nigeria Citizens’.
