The Commissioner of police in Kwara state, Mr Kayode Egbetokun has confirmed the arrest of Senator Rafiu Ibrahim,a senator representing PDP in the national assembly, saying that he was being detained over a murder case which resulted from the attack by his supporters on his arch rival ,the APC Kwara South Senatorial candidate Arc Lola Ashiru in Ojoku on Tuesday.
Senator Rafiu Ibrahim being detained is representing kwara south in the national assembly. He is Peoples Democratic party(PDP) senatorial candidate in today’s election.
Egbetokun who spoke at a press conference in the police headquarters in Ilorin on Friday was flanked by the heads of DSS,NAF,the military,NSCD and other security agencies in the state.
He also announced restrictions of movement across the state between 6am and 6pm during elections.
He said: “Its true that we have a senator in our custody and the arrest was in connection with the incident in Ojoku and don’t forget that a life was lost in that incident.
“That cannot happen and we will fold out arms. Let me express our resolve to be fair to all and in assuring you that no innocent person would be arrested
“Eight and not twenty suspects as widely rumoured have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday clash between the supporters of Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and Arc Lola Ashiru in Ojoku and the attack on the convoy of the Vice president Professor Yemi Osibajo when he visited Ilorin on Tuesday.
