ENUGU- THE Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, has described the anticipated victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the just concluded presidential election as a guarantee of uninterrupted development of critical infrastructure in Nigeria.

He spoke in Enugu, Tuesday, during a Victory party organised by the Buhari Support Organisation and the Zikist Buharist Movement, to celebrate the anticipated victory of President Buhari in last Saturday’s Presidential poll.

According to Okechukwu, the victory of President Buhari has provided a lifeline to ongoing development of critical infrastructure, such as roads, rail and massive investment in agriculture, geared towards diversification of the country’s economic base and attaining self sufficiency in food production.

He said “The Eastern Rail Line Corridor, Enugu Coal, second Niger Bridge, Enugu Urban Water Scheme are now guaranteed. This is reason for the jubilation.”

February 16 and the restructuring bait

Okechukwu said that not minding the economic downturn shortly after President Buhari assumed office in 2015, his administration within its first tenure, embarked on provision of additional 5,000 megawatts of electricity, 5,000 kilometers of federal roads and 5,000 kilometers standard gauge rail lines of critical infrastructure.

“Buhari’s uncommon stride in the provision of critical infrastructure is why we are happy with his (anticipated) victory.”

He insisted that the Buhari administration has invested in critical infrastructure, more than any other government since the return of democracy in Nigeria.

“This is the foundation of prosperity as captured in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, ERGP,” Okechukwu said.

The VON DG maintained that there was no better opportunity than the second term of President Buhari to consolidate on the gains already made.

“Whereas, we did better in the South East in 2019 than 2015; one blames the poor performance of President Buhari on bigotry orchestrated by those who deceived the people with Atiku’s phantom restructuring gimmick.”

He explained that Nigeria has a rigid constitution and for anybody to restructure the country, stating that it requires two thirds approval by the National Assembly and the 36 states legislative assemblies.
