ABUJA—VICE Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former Chairman of Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, in Cross River State, Mr Cletus Obun has come to the defence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Mike Igini, saying that he is one of the most honest and transparent public servants in the country.
Obun who spoke to Vanguard on telephone while reacting to the calls by some in Akwa Ibom for the removal of Igini, argued that people making such calls may have tried unsuccessfully to induce or infiltrate him, hence, they decided to come up with he described as unsubstantiated allegations to impugn on his (Igini’s) integrity.
“In fact, he is one of those who are like the brain box in INEC. If it is moral rectitude, public integrity, holding public office as an example, he is a model by every definition of what a public servant should be. Igini has lived it privately and publicly. So for anybody to impugn on his character, that person has more to explain than Igini.”
“I will like that those who have issues against Igini to bring cogent verifiable evidence to indict him rather than make sweeping comments about. A man who has sacrificed so much for our electoral system should not be messed up on the alter of election.”
