Johnny’ crooner, Yemi Alade has given an insight why she may very well be the best female artiste of 2018.
The woman who still owns the record of having the most viewed Nigerian video of all times by a female artiste revealed all her activities in an Instagram post, sparking a wave of debate as to who had the most successful year between her and her arch rival, Tiwa Savage.
According to the eclectic singer she was in the US video game, just alongside Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Nicky Minaj. She won AFRIMMA Best Female artiste in West Africa and Headies Best Live Act. She also said she toured 23 cities and headlined 41 concerts. Her video ‘Bum bum’ became the most watched YouTube video by an African woman in 2018.
Until a couple of months ago Yemi Alade’s ‘Johnny’ video remained Nigeria’s most viewed video on YouTube until it was overtaken by Davido’s Fall video.
No doubt it was a spectacular year for the singer as she released hits like ‘Oh My Gosh’ and ‘How I feel’ and ‘Oga’ but some have argued that Tiwa Savage had a more robust year. Her clinching the coveted ‘Best African Act’ award at the MTV EMAs in November ahead of the likes of Davido put her in the clear, so say many music pundits.
Summing up her successful year, Yemi wrote on her Instagram page, “ Basking in the mercy of God as I long to be in your shadow while you take the lead ever so graciously my King of kings. I’m nothing but one of the many people you have blessed.”
