How music found me – Singer, Olofin Sniper

With three years on the spin and with five singles to his credit, musical artist, Olofinjana Ademola known musically as Olofin Sniper has come of age and has taken his place in the entertainment space.

The journey into music for the singer was an effortless one as the road appeared to be paved with gold directing his smooth sailing onto the shore of prominence in the Nigerian musical landscape. Olofin Sniper in this interview gives a snippet into how music found him instead of the other way round.

According to him, music started for him from childhood. His background was laced with musical vibrations that shaped his thoughts and growth process so much so music was ingrained in his

DNA that the choice was the only option for him.

“Music is a part of everyone’s life. From childhood sing-along songs, to garage grunge music, and everything in between music is everywhere. Growing up with an extremely musical background, it was in my genes that I would become a musician,” he stated.

He continued, “Playing music has helped me become the person I am by being a release for my anger, broadening my future and making new friends. I first joined the band in the fourth grade playing the drums. I played for about two weeks then I quit because I didn’t like it, mostly because of the teacher. In the sixth grade we got a new music teacher and she told me I looked like a trumpet player, so I gave it a try. I was taking music lessons but after the first one my music teacher told me to work hard because she loved my sound.”

Olofin Sniper soon developed into a rough cut of a musical work-in-progress. But his talent was underneath and crying to find a means of expression. But because all he wanted to do was music and music found him eventually.

“The songs I make relate to my feelings. Some songs would be hard, full of hate and anger but some songs were mellow with sad heart filled lyrics. Music equals life, or so the saying goes. I feel if I had dropped out of the band I would have missed out on a great experience. The ability to play music is something that will live on in me for the rest of my life. Unlike playing a sport you can’t ever get worn out or injured and lose the talent,”he asserted.

Olofin Sniper announced his arrival on the music scene with a single titled “New Dawn” in 2015. As the title of the single implies, it seems the singer was telling the world a new star has been born. The song as a debut effort travelled light but was powerful enough to get eyes looking his way and ears listening to him.

The debut effort watered the way for the sophomore single titled “Look into my eyes” which dropped in 2016. He had already got entertainment stakeholders looking his way and with “Look into my eyes” he actually got them looking into his eyes and he was noticed and won accolades for the effort.

By the time he dropped “Adama” also in 2016, “Cool Temper” in 2017 and “Party Hard” in 2018 the singer needed no introduction as he had stamped his feet on the musical landscape with serious intent and the world didn’t fail to notice.
