A Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Nick Medo-Uwa, has expressed fears that next year’s election would be massively rigged going by the current electoral process in the country. The cleric stated this in a chat with newsmen ahead of his International Laughter programme starting today Sunday Oct 21, 2018.

“From what we have seen in Ekiti and Osun states, the electoral body seemed to be a biased umpire and its goodwill among Nigerians is decreasing. It is now left to it to prove those who hold this view wrong.  INEC needs to go the extra mile to convince Nigerians about its ability to conduct the coming elections without fear or favour. But if care is not taken, INEC may plunge this nation into a serious problem in 2019. I see the presidential poll being rigged but I will advise the government in power to allow peace to reign, Pastor Medu Uwa said.

The cleric who is the Senior Pastor of Pentecostal Canaanland Mission Inc, based in Lagos also expressing his dissatisfaction with the President Buhari’s administration. He berated his poor management and lopsided appointments.

“I used to be an ardent admirer of President Muhammadu Buhari because I saw him as someone that is morally upright but it is obvious that he hasn’t performed as expected. Nigerians expected him to balance things up in the appointments he made but he chose instead to be sectional. To that extent, he has failed the test of leadership.

Nigeria is in dire need of unity and it is expected that the president should put this into consideration. We pray that God should give the president a change of heart or give Nigerians a better leader that can take the country to the next level of development.”

Speaking further, Pastor Medu-Uwa noted that despite the present disillusionment among the citizens, Nigeria is going to witness some logical political activities in the buildup to the 2019 polls. He however appealed to politicians to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, saying that election is not a do or die affair.

“I believe that Nigeria is going to get it right. However, it depends on how the politicians conduct themselves before, during and after next year’s general elections. I can say that 2019 is pregnant because I see chaos and conflicts here and there but we are praying that such crises will be averted.

“This year’s Laughter which holds this Sunday October 21, is to seek the face of God for Nigeria, concerning the 2019 general elections. It is a time that children of God will gather together to pray for God’s intervention in the affairs of this country. We have already declared prayer and fasting to that effect which is ongoing for things to work out good for Nigeria.

“Again, this year’s Laughter will witness a lot of humanitarian activities. We are organising free medical outreach for the citizens. People from within and outside this community can walk in and get fully examined and treated. There will be free eye tests and treatment, free drugs and eye glasses will be given out according to the needs of the people.

We want to use the programme to touch lives of the people. It is part of our social responsibility. We are also going to impact on the lives of the widows in our midst. We are going to reach out to the less privileged members of the society, give them hope and empower them with whatever we have to encourage them.

Moreover, we have prominent preachers that are coming to minister to the needs of the people. Such preachers are Bishops O.C Dominic, Newlife Ugochukwu, Okwudili Eze; Apostles Oluchi Obiakor-Eli Kuris, John Paul Okwok and Rev. Lotachukwu David, among others.

These are clerics that God answers their prayers and with these gifted servants of God, who are very gifted in different areas, all the problems of the participants will be addressed during this week-long event, which is entitled ‘Open Heaven.’

This is a programme that everyone should endavour to attend and be blessed. The opening ceremony is on Sunday, October 21. It is a day that this country will be lifted to the throne of God, using the Nigerian flag as a point of contact. There will be Suya night on Friday when there is going to be word impartation and worship and there will be physical suya all night. Great testimonies have been following the suya night and it has been like this for the past 15 years,” Pastor Medo-Uwa added.

Speaking on the state of the nation and hunger in the land, Pastor Medo-Uwa stated: “It is so disheartening that a nation so gifted like Nigeria should be categorised as the abode of world’s poorest people.

I think the government should create enabling environment for businesses to thrive and encourage the citizens to excel in their chosen endeavors. Poverty alleviation is very important but it is not appropriate to be sharing money to some people in the guise of empowerment and poverty alleviation. What is N30, 000 that is being given to some people in the name of empowerment? Such amount of money cannot pay for the rent of a shop.

The citizens don’t need such kind of money because it won’t make any difference in their lives. What government should do is to create the right environment to enable the people to do their businesses and encourage companies to come up, thereby creating employment opportunities for the citizens. If you give people paltry sum of N30, 000 to do business without creating the enabling environment, the money will sink.

If people are encouraged, small scale industries can empower the citizens; let the citizens have access to loans to do their businesses that is the right thing to do. So offering people N30 000, in the name of empowerment is counterproductive. Most of the recipients will not invest the money at all. It is just for three days’ food.

Furthermore, governments at different levels should wake up and increase the wages of workers because Nigerian workers are suffering. How can people not be corrupt when they are hungry? A hungry gateman can receive inducement and open the gate for the enemy because he is hungry. However, if an individual has job satisfaction, he will be content.

So, fighting corruption should start with fixing of the economy, let there be jobs for the citizens, and right environment for people to have something to do,” he concludes.
