APC denies alleged ‘Sham primary and hijack of party structure in Sapele

By Godwin Oghre

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Sapele Local Government has denied a statement credited to an aspirant to the party’s just-concluded primary for Sapele Constituency, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Jackson Otuedor, in which the latter accused some chieftains of the party of “hijacking the party for their selfish desires and personal gain.”

APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole

Otuedor in the statement said, “I reject the result of the primary because violence rocked the primary as thugs loyal to one of the aspirants shot sporadically at the venue in a bid to prevent legitimate delegates from voting, consequently rendering the exercise a sham.”

But in a swift reaction, Chieftain of the party in the area, Mr. Akpojotor Igbegbetoro said, “Jackson Otuedor did not take part in the primary as he was earlier disqualified during the screening exercise at Asaba, the State Capital.”

“He was not at the venue of the primary. The exercise was free and fair. Although there were pockets of disagreements, which is normal in a democracy—all opinions were heard and settled amicably—and the exercise went on smoothly. It is not also true that some people  hijacked the party structure.”
