Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said there is no better time than now for Nigerians to unite to fight the numerous challenges facing the country ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Listing some of the challenges facing the country, NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, named unemployment, loss of lives due to routine conflicts across the country, resurgence of mutual suspicions, sectarian/hate tendencies, violence and general threats to oneness and sovereignty.
In a statement entitled Let Us Imbibe the Spirit of Eid-el-Kabir, Wabba, on behalf of NLC, congratulated and celebrated with Muslim faithful in Nigeria.
According to the statement, “Eid-el-Kabir symbolises sacrifice, discipline, faith, the spirit of give and take, love of God and love for our neighbour, obedience to and total submission to God our creator.
“In the light of this, we use this opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians, not only Muslims, to imbibe the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.
“No time is more auspicious than that we have severe challenges in the polity to imbibe these qualities.
“This moment similarly avails us a great opportunity to strengthen the bonds that hold us together and the shared values that stand us on the high pedestal in the community of nations.
“We, ordinary Nigerians, should not lend ourselves to the machinations of a selfish few, who seek power at all costs not for the benefit of all Nigerians, but for themselves.”
“We should rise with a common resolve to challenge those people and those things that polarise us.”
