Vanguard holds Economic Forum Series on MSMEs today

Vanguard Newspaper is today hosting the inaugural Economic Forum Series on MSMEs with the theme, “The Impact of Technology Adoption for MSMEs in a Changing Tax Policy and Regulatory Environment” at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos by 10am.

Facilitators at the event will discuss the role of technology adoption for driving growth and innovation for MSMEs; Examine the impact of technology adoption in facilitating tax obligations of MSME businesses; Discuss the challenges of multiple taxation and tax administration for MSMEs; Discuss how challenges posed by the need to withhold payroll/income taxes and social contributions from employees of MSMEs can be addressed; Examine the role of Fintech in integrating and expanding MSMEs access to finance and; and make recommendations on the way forward.

In a statement, General Manager/Editor-in-chief, Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye said, “As tax authorities digitize, adapt and adopt technology in system and process improvement in tax payment collections and administration, they should equally be heard and seen supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in doing same in an effort to accelerate Nigeria’s integration and emergence in the global digital economy. “The Forum will bring together business start-ups, banking professionals, finance experts, technology entrepreneurs, decision and policy makers, thought leaders, tax and accounting professionals drawn from the public, private and civil society and not for profit organisations to engage in critical thinking proffer and offer solutions on the way forward.”

Minister of State for Industry, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, is expected at the event as the Guest of Honour, along with other distinguished speakers including: Mr. Babatunde Fowler, Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); Mr. John Obaro, Managing Director/CEO, SystemSpecs Limited; and Mr. Muda Yusuf, Director General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). Others are Prince Degun Agboade, President, National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME); Esiri Agbeyi, Tax Partner, PwC; and Dr. Yinka David-West, Academic Director/Senior Fellow, Information Systems, Lagos Business School.
