Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has thrown down the gauntlet for Sunday’s Supercup rivals Eintracht Frankfurt, insisting the reigning Bundesliga champions are fired up and raring to go.
“We want to play well,” the 34-year-old said of the game that will be shown live on leading pay television network, StarTimes.
“We lost the DFB Cup final and we’ll do everything we can to win on Sunday. Every title counts and we want to take it home.”
The Dutchman, who is going into his tenth season at the club after recently penning a one-year contract extension, has won the Supercup four times previously (2010, 2012, 2016, 2017) and is in confident mood ahead of this year’s edition.
“You can lay the foundations for the entire campaign in pre-season,” he said. “It’s very important. We’ve got five weeks of training behind as now and we’ve worked very well, so hopefully that’ll show over the next few weeks. Want to have a good start to the season.”
