Obaship stool: Ex-monarch petitions Buhari, AG over detention

AKURE—THE former traditional ruler of Olugbo of Ugbo in the oil-rich Ilaje communities in Ondo State, Dr. Adebanjo Mafimisebi has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, over the continuous unlawful and illegal detention of some members of his family by the police despite a court judgment for their unconditional release.

The detained members of the former monarch include his 70-year-old brother, Prince Adefemi Mafimisebi and Prince Wemimo Mafimisebi, aged45.

Addressing newsmen in Akure, the former monarch through, his lawyer, Idowu Mafimisebi said the two men along with others were arrested on April 6, 2018, at Ode Ugbo and had been in detention for 126 days “on a flimsy excuse.”

Mafimisebi said: “It was surprising that the Nigeria Police, under the supervision of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, failed to honour the court judgment delivered by Justice W.A Akintoroye since July 18, 2018.

“The implication of the flagrant disobedience to the judgment of a court of record  is a brazing invitation to chaos and anarchy.

“We use this medium to cry to the President, the Governor of Ondo State, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Police Service Commission that the people of Ode Ugbo have been under siege by being subjected to torture, unlawful arrest and detention.”
