NUPENG suspends strike in A-Ibom as DSS, NNPC intervene

THE Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, announced the suspension of its industrial action in Akwa Ibom State following the interventions of the Director-General of Department of State Security Services, DSS, Mallam Lawal Daura and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru.

Besides DSS DG and NNPC GMD, Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream, Mr Joseph Akinlaja, also intervened and are in their different capacities making genuine commitments towards resolving the lingering issues between the union and the managements of Universal Energy Nigeria Limited as well as Frontier Nigeria Limited, where Akwa Ibom State Government has stakes.

NUPENG members in both companies had gone on strike over unresolved grievances.

Speaking, President of NUPENG, Prince Williams Apkoreha, said “We are using this opportunity to direct all our members to resume at their respective duty posts and ensure that all suspended services in the course of the industrial return to normalcy in the overall interest of the country.”
