BENIN—THE wind of defections blowing across the country has once again berthed in Edo State as some notable members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have defected from the party for  the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The latest defectors from the party with their supporters are former PDP Woman Leader for Edo State, Mrs. Lucy Omagbon, a top member of the party, Mr. Lawrence Oboh, Mr. Harrison Omagbon and a host of others.

The latest defection is coming on the heels of an appeal by a former Senior Political Adviser to the APC National Chairman, Mr. Charles Idahosa,  who called for restraint from members threatening to leave.

The former APC members in their separate speeches,  agreed that the ruling party had failed Nigeria and they were left with no other choice than to quit and join the PDP.

Mrs. Omagbon, a former Commissioner of Education, told her supporters that she left the PDP for the APC because of problems within the ranks of the opposition party.

She, however, added that it was ironical that the problems she met in the PDP were a child’s play compared to the monumental problems of the APC.

Amidst solidarity songs, Mrs Omagbon who was a former council  between 2013 and 2016, said that she was quitting with her supporters, and like the biblical prodigal son going back home to the PDP.

She said: “When I left the APC,  it was because of some problems but the problems in PDP are a child’s play compared to those of the APC. We have been holding meetings and consulting.  Today, we decided to leave the APC for the PDP. I am not decamping but only going back home.”

Oboh adopted Mrs. Omagbon’s position, insisting that it was obvious that the ruling party was only out to inflict pain on ordinary Nigerians, adding that its only achievement was the distribution of poverty to the people.
