Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Vincent Uduagahan, has ordered the arrest of two officials of Delta State Traffic Management Authority, DESTMA, for allegedly extorting motorists in Asaba, the state capital.

Uduagahan, who disclosed this to journalists in Asaba yesterday, expressed displeasure over the conduct of the officers who  were stationed in front of the Federal Secretariat near the traffic light in Asaba, noting that ‘’Their arrest will serve as a deterrent to other officers with such disgraceful behaviour..

“The officers usually arrest motorists under flimsy excuses, lock up their vehicles and demand money from them without properly booking them for any offence.

“We had received several complaints over the conduct of these officers and have decided that they must be arrested and made to explain why they always extort  motorists on the excuse that they beat traffic light,” Uduaghan added.
