Worried by the continued siege to the Benue State House of Assembly Complex by Police personnel, the state government has petitioned the Police Service Commission, PSC, requesting its intervention to unseal the House.
State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Michael Gusa, sought the intervention of the PSC in a letter to the chairman of the commission.
A copy of the letter dated July 31, 2018, reads: “We call on you to intervene and direct the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State to withdraw the officers and men from the Assembly Complex
“The change in leadership of the House is a routine legislative affair to which the Police is not expected to take sides and unleash chaos on the legislative arm of the government of Benue State.
“In order to forestall breakdown of law and order, the affected lawmakers secured an order of interim injunction restraining the Police from sealing the Complex or interfering with the functions of the new leadership of the House.
“The Police have disobeyed the Court order. Hence the need to seek the intervention of the Commission.’’
