T he 6th Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards hold tonight at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, from where it will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels on Dstv and Gotv from pm West African Time (WAT).
The awards show which made its debut in 2013, is billed to be bigger with actors across the continent vying for honours in the voting and non-voting categories. A total of 135 nominees have been announced for 27 different categories.
Out of all these 27 categories only seven have been subjected to public voting. The categories are: namely;Best Actor in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series), Best Actor in a Drama (Movie/TV Series), Best Supporting Actor in a Drama (Movie/Series), Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series), Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series), Best Supporting Actress in a Drama (Movie/Series) and Best Short Film or Online Video.
However, with the primary focus of the event being the recognition and rewarding of film and television talent for their outstanding work, viewers can look forward to their favourite stars lifting awards for categories like Best Actor/Actress, Best Producer and the most coveted award, Movie of the Year.
It is sure going to be a night of glitz, honours, accolades, disappointment, speeches and of course roller-coastal entertainment. Here are some of the reasons to look forward to the night.
Nigerian media personality, IK Osakioduwa will return to host the show alongside South African media belle, Minnie Dlamini. The duo hosted the last two consecutive editions of the show and had great synergy on stage.
Viewers can expect anything from comedic to tear-jerking speeches by the award winners as they render praises and appreciation to their fans and organisers of the award show.
Lighting up the stage are some of Nigeria’s biggest and award-winning musicians including song writer and producer, Cobhams Asuquo, rapper and song writer, Falz and highlife singer, Adekunle Gold.
The night promises an exciting and diverse line-up of stellar performances as viewers will also get to see live on stage the SEKI traditional dance troupe. The dance drama group are heavily influenced by traces of American tap dance which originate from five different masquerade groups of the lower Niger Delta area of Nigeria.
Undoubtedly a highlight of the event, second only to the receiving of awards, the AMVCA red carpet gathers the best of African fashion under one roof: from the classy, urbane and hip to the eccentric, unpredictable and even downright confusing, viewers can expect to be entertained straight from the red carpet and onstage.
AMVCA boasts the largest gathering of African celebrities and socialites from all walks of life; beyond being a gathering of the continent’s best film and TV talent, it is also an event where top tier professionals, celebrities, socialites and social media superstars gather to celebrate the best of African filmmaking.
