Kano-The new Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and former deputy Speaker, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum from Rano local government area has paid homage to the Kano state governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje Monday afternoon.

“We are here Your Excellency, to pay homage to you. We are solidly behind you and all government activities. We are loyal card-carrying members of our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC).” He said.
This followed the impeachment of the former Speaker Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf Attah Fage on a motion filed by the member representing Warawa constituency Alhaji Labaran Abdul Madari and seconded by the member representing Tudun wada constituency, Abdullahi Yaryasa.
The impeached Speaker was accused of corruption and not carrying the members of the House along.
Also affected by the change in the House were the majority leader Muhammad Bello Butu Butu whose position was taken over by Baffa Babba Dan Agundi and the Chief whip who is now replaces by Alhaji Ayuba Labaran from Kabo constituency.
Twenty seven out of forty members signed the impeachment motion.
In a speech while receiving the new Speaker Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state described the change of leadership in the State House of Assembly as another process for strengthening internal democracy.
“The leadership change shows how Kano, as a state, is serious about internal democracy” he said.
“Being an issue of internal democracy, that was why it took place smoothly without any fracas on the floor of the House. It is indeed a smooth change. As a veteran with legislative issues, I know this will further strengthen our internal democracy,” he added.
The governor advised the new leadership of the House to carry all along in the discharge of their duties.
The state government, Ganduje assures would have good synergy with the legislative house.
In his remarks, the new Speaker, Kabiru Alhasan Rurum assured that they were solidly behind the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari and that of governor Ganduje in next year’s general election.
“We shall always remain committed in supporting the policies of government. And we will not relent in supporting you sir. What we did today on the floor of the House, that brought me to the seat of the Speaker, we did everything in the presence of the state party chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, so the process was very transparent,” he said.
