LAGOS—FOLLOWING the petrol tanker fire on Ojodu Berger bridge in Lagos, Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, NISE, has called on federal and state governments and all stakeholders involved in ensuring the safety of the populace to take action to guarantee the safety of the public, particularly with respect to the frequent incidents of fire caused by unsafe petrol tankers in the country.

In a statement by its national chairman, Mr A. B. Oyedepo, NISE said it was ready and available to work with all responsible stakeholders who can play a role in eliminating the hazard of petroleum tanker fires and explosions from Nigerian roads.

According to Oyedepo, “NISE extends its condolences to all those who lost loved ones in this catastrophe and commiserates with Nigeria and Nigerians who have  to  endure the pain and agony caused by still another petroleum tanker tragedy.

NISE called on relevant stakeholders to take specific actions, including the proper regulation of the design, construction, operations and maintenance of petrol tankers.
