LAGOS—Senator Gbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East Senatorial District has said the appointment of former Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith will bring about the necessary reforms needed to transform the Nigeria Police Service Commission.
Ashafa made the remark, Wednesday, in his address during the consideration of the report of the Committee on Police Affairs confirming the appointment of Musiliu Smith as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.
“Former IGP Musiliu Smith is renowned to have conducted himself professionally at all his duty posts which endeared him to all law abiding members of the various communities where he served and indeed the entire Nation while he served as the Inspector General of Police between 1999 and 2002.
“I am confident that he will bring his professionalism to bear on his new appointment and thereby ensure that the necessary reforms are instituted in the Nigerian Police Service Commission,” he stated.
Ashafa therefore, urged the rank and file of the police to remain enthusiastic, with an assurance that Smith would continue to put their welfare as well as regularize the promotion scale of the entire force.
Smith upon his confirmation by the Senate, yesterday, will replace former IGP Mike Okiro as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.
