Like Music, physiological exercises and drugs, words, when used properly, can be a very powerful tool for healing a variety of neurological and psychological issues.

This amazing fact formed part of revelations shared recently at the one year anniversary of popular Lagos Talks 91.3FM radio show, Poetrapy with Maureen.

At the milestone event themed: SELF EXPRESSION, poet, writer and host of the programme, Maureen Alasa, who treated ardent listeners of the show, family, friends and fans to an exciting evening at the Glory’s Bar, Ikoyi recently, used the milestone event to launch the POETRAPY POCKET PAD, a mini pocket-friendly diary, complete with exclusive poetry and therapy.

According to Maureen Alasa, the first of its kind POETRAPY POCKET PAD is a pocket size “mobile therapy pad” she designed in a bid to make poetry therapy easy and accessible to all. She revealed that it provides beautifully written poetic words as well as therapeutic exercises to be practised weekly by the users.

Overall, SELF EXPRESSION was a celebration of words and all things art. From beautifully delivered poetic lines, to dance performances, comedy acts, music and body painting.

Ms. Alasa earlier told newsmen that she developed the radio show a year ago in a quest to sanitize and change the overall mindset of the Nigerian youth.

“Last year, I came up with a Poetry therapy radio show at 11am: POETRAPY WITH MAUREEN on Lagos Talks 91.3 FM. For one year, this 30-minute radio show healed, inspired and motivated many to become better versions of themselves and so as a way of celebrating one year of practising poetry therapy, I decided to hold this event in honour of lovers of the art, as well as my teeming listeners. We also launched the exclusive POETRAPY POCKET PAD. It’s a collector’s item. Make sure to get one!”

Guests were treated to rib-cracking jokes by Fejiro Omu, spoken word poetry by phenomenal poets like Faith Moyosore, Remi Olutimayin, Caleb Adebayo, Glory Njoku, Neenma Ebeledike, Emmanuela Alile, Tobi Daniels and Victor Akajiofor Jones amongst others.

Music was provided by singers EseqliC, Samuel Chizi, Maka and gifted pianist, Emmanuel Alile. Motivational speaker, Abdul Adenike, also found a unique way to talk about ‘determination’.

The high point of the evening was the silhouette dance performance by host, Maureen Alasa, who did a dance expression to her piece of poetry, with a mix of music (like has never been done before), aptly depicting the theme of the night; Self expression.
