Chief Adesunbo Onitiri has joined the race for Lagos Central senatorial seat ahead of the 2019 elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a statement in Lagos, Onitiri, an accomplished estate surveyor and valuer, said he was bidding for the coveted position in order to deepen democracy in Nigeria by joining like-minds to change  obsolete legislation still in our statute books for good governance.

According to him, the 1999 Constitution, as amended, did not give room for true democracy to survive in the country.

The aspirant therefore appealed to credible Nigerians to show interest in politics to ensure good  governance. Onitiri, who is the General Secretary of Lagos Elders Council, is a real estate developer with offices all over the federation.

Quoting Pearl S. Buck, Onitiri said when good and honest people cease participating in politics, evil men prevail. “Since there can be no true citizenship in the absence of participation, politics means being a part of the world around you” also quoting Carolyn Warner. The society is a reflection of the leaders that govern. Evil triumph when good people keep quiet and refuse to participate”, he stated.
