ENUGU—ROTARY International, a non-profit organisation, has commenced intervention in 54 secondary hospitals in Enugu state that will improve Maternal and Child Healthcare, MCH, in the area.

National coordinator, Rotary Maternal and Child Health Project Nigeria, Prof. Emmanuel Lufadeju who made the disclosure when the organisation visited the state ministry of Health, said the intervention is in establishment of an electronic platform for data collection on Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance, MPDS, and Response.

Lufadeju disclosed that Rotary was already working in 10 secondary hospitals in the state on data collection but will now expand to the rest of 54 hospitals in the state.

“We have improved quality assurance in obstetrics, using the MPDS guildlines to develop an electronic platform for MCH data collection system.

“The federal government and the National Council on Health have adopted it and said we must expand to all the 36 states in the country.

“We are instituting family planning programme in the country that will involve upgrading health centres, provisions of water and electricity in those centres and workforce capacity to enable them work 24 hours, seven days a week so that women in labour can deliver at anytime,” Lufadeju said.
