BENIN—BARELY 24 hours after the defection of 14 senators of the All Progressives Congress, APC and 37 of their counterparts from the House of Representatives to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and other opposition parties, the Edo State chapter of the party yesterday, said the defectors left because of desperation for return tickets.
Also, Alhaji Usman Abuda, the Daniya of Auchi Scared Kingdom, described as irresponsible, the action of the lawmakers.
Speaking with Vanguard, Abuda said: “Nigerian politicians are unashamedly playing with the life of the country. Painfully, they are adults who should demonstrate a level of maturity in whatever is confronting them. Jumping from one party to another is an absolute sign of mischievousness.”
Meanwhile, the state Secretary of the APC, in a chat with journalists, insisted that the defection of the lawmakers would not affect the fortunes of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.
He said: “As a grassroots politician, we expected it from these crop of politicians without conscience, we expected it because we knew where they are coming from, 95 per cent of them came in from PDP at the time they lobbied us to join the crusade for a new Nigeria. We thought with what Nigeria is passing through, we will learn and blend into the new system of a new Nigeria.”
