KATSINA – Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie is dead.
Coomassie died on Thursday evening at the age of 76 years.
His younger brother, Dahiru Coomassie confirmed his death.
He was rushed to the Orthopedic Hospital in Katsina around 11am on Thursday morning, he regained his consciousness but gave up around 5pm.
He is survived by one wife, six children and many grand children.
He was the longest serving Inspector General of Police.
Before his death, Coomassie was the Sardauna Katsina of Emir of Katsina and Garkuwan Hausa of Emir of Daura.
Chief of Katina, Justice Danladi Musa was among those who visited his family.
A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, confirming the death also said ‘the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, on behalf of the Police Management Team and the entire Officers and Men of the Force, with a heavy heart regret to announce the demise of IGP (rtd) Alh. Ibrahim Ahmadu Commassie, Sardaunan Katsina, Garkuwan Hausa.
“The IGP commiserate with his family, the good people and Government of Katsina State and our dear Nation, Nigeria on this great loss. May his soul rest in peace”..
Late Coomassie will be buried according to Islamic rites on Friday after Jumaat prayers at the Bani Coomassie Mosque in GRA, a stone throw to his residence
Late Commassie, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Inspector on May 11, 1964 and was appointed the 9th Indigenous Inspector General of Police on 26 August, 1993 to 1999.
