with the recent pronouncement of president Muhammadu Buhari, now every June 12, all Nigerians will have some spare family time to reflect on the fact that the power of democracy is always with the people, and that no matter how long it takes, the will of the majority shall always prevail.

This is why the action by President Muhammadu Buhari,, coming 25 years after the event of June 12, 1993 is most commendable and it must be hailed in its entirety by all lovers of our great nation.

It is not about whether it brings political capital to President Muhammadu Buhari or not; after all, others before him could have done it, but they did not. But, the fact that we can all connect to this event with that deeper, inner sense that justice, fairness and truth though denied for very long, has now been upheld offers hope for a better future for our country. This is what nation-building is all about; because we all can come together on a matter of common interest that serves our higher ideals.

It is worrisome that some Nigerians have tried to question the veracity of the pronouncement by Muhammadu Buhari probably with intent to diminish its significance. Some have tried to focus more on the legalistic interpretations, but thank God some senior legal luminaries that have crushed those arguments.

If democracy is a government of the people, for the people and *by the people*, then the freest and fairest election that ever happened under our own democratic experience, but was truncated because of special interests, has now been reinstated to its proper place of prominence. It is now on top of our national political mantle.
