By Ola Ajayi

IBADAN — THE Oyo State Government has called on parents and other stakeholders not to neglect public schools to government alone noting that it requires a lot of money to maintain.

Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi

This call was made at the official hand over and commissioning of the students’ hall of residence, Webster Hostel, at the Wesley College School of Science, Elekuro, Ibadan.

The hall of residence was renovated by the Wesley College Old Students’ Association class of 1996 led by its President Dr. Folasade Adeboyejo.

The Permanent Secretary,    Ministry of Education, Mrs. Ibironke Fatoki said: ‘’Education is one of the sectors that is gulping a lot of money from the government.  Considering the fact that we must earmark funds to other sectors, parents, old students and other stakeholders must always be ready to support so that the students can learn in a conducive atmosphere.

‘’I commend the Class of 1996 of WESCOSA for bringing us here today to commission and hand over these projects.

In his remarks, President of WESCOSA 1996 set, Dr. Adeboyejo Folasade said: “We left this school 22 years ago, and today, we are in your midst with these little projects that cost over N3 million as our contributions. We have paid back to the school that made us who we are today.”

Addressing a large number of students in attendance, she urged them to change “your maintenance culture. In few minutes, we shall hand over the facilities to you, please manage it properly so that you can inspire us and others to do more. Also, what we are doing today is not mere giving back to our alma mater, it is not free but because we believe in you that you shall make it in the nearest future and reciprocate what we are doing today. You must be serious with your education,      you must utilize the opportunities that come to your ways and pursue excellence at all cost.”
