The controversies surrounding the concept of affordable housing may be laid to rest after the formal launch of a book entitled Affordable today at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The book which seeks to make people see the concept of affordable housing from different persepectives, and identify the roles of every sector required to make housing affordable in Nigeria, is written by Mr. Tayo Odunsi, Chief Executive Officer, Northcourt, a Lagos-based real estate investment solutions company. Speaking on the book, Odunsi said misconceptions about affordable housing by everybody involved in housing provision, made him to write the book which he said will make people see what affordable housing means, pointing out that what a lot of people call affordable housing is actually not affordable housing but low income housing.

He disclosed that affordable housing can only be achieved if the five key components of affordable housing such as the government, professionals, private sector, communities and individuals contribute their quotas effectively to the successful implementation of affordable housing in the country.

According to Northcourt boss who said the roles of the sectors to affordable housing have been explained in the book, while the government, owner of land, should be in the forefront of affordable housing provision by providing land, infrastructure and enabling environment for developers, professionals, private sector, communities and individuals should equally be ready to play their roles effectively to make affordable housing realisable in the Nigeria.
