YOLA: Former vice President , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has observed that as the country marches toward the 2019 general elections, the present spate of insecurity in the country is bound to increase.

“As we march towards 2019, insurgency, kidnapping, armed robbery, thuggery and other forms of insecurity are bound to be on the increase”.

The federal government should as a matter of policy beef up security to cope with the rising trend:”,he advised.

:The former vice president spoke in Yola Monday when he visited the survivors of the recent suicide bomb in Mubi recuperating at the federal medical centre in the Adamawa state capital.

Atiku Abubakar suggested that the military should be detached from operating in the internal security of the country, stressing that the DSS, the police, Nigeria security and civil defence corps, NSCDC and other para-military organizations should be re-organized to meet the present challenges.

“Re equip the para-military organs and give them all the necessary working materials to enable them withstand the current wave of insecurity” he added.

He emphasized on the need for training and re-training of security operations to enable them meet up with the challenges of the 21^st century, adding that Nigeria presently does not have the required security men to meet the security challenges.

“Presently, we do not have enough security personnel to cover all the nooks and crannies of the country for now” Atiku Abubakar observed.

The former vice president stated that 8 years is too small for a country to contain any outbreak of insurgency, saying “Nigeria fought a civil war for three years before it was brought to an end which is easier to handle”.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar donated N10million to federal medical centre FMC fund for the treatment of victims of insurgency attacks and others receiving treatment at the centre.

The former vice president later commiserated with the remaining 12 survivors of the Mubi suicide bomb attack that claimed many lives and injured many more.

Receiving the former vice president, the Chief medical Director of FMC, Professor Auwal Abubakar disclosed that no fewer than 300 patients have so far benefitted from donations by the former vice president’s contribution to the centre.
