ASABA—AS Christians all over the world celebrate Easter, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; his Akwa Ibom and Rivers states counterparts, Messrs Udom Emmanuel and Nyesom Wike; Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori and immediate past Secretary to Delta State Government, Ovuozorie Macaulay, have urged Christians to show love to one another and promote peace among mankind.
Okowa, in his Easter message to Deltans, Nigerians and Christians in particular, urged them not to relent in cooperating and supporting government at all levels in their efforts to put in place programmes and measures that will enhance and improve the standard of living of Nigerians.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Okowa said: “Easter is a period to share love and promotes peace. Jesus Christ lived and died for peace and love to reign and we can all emulate the exemplary life of Christ by becoming promoter of peace and love. Easter is the reason we are called Christians.”
Governor Emmanuel in a state-wide broadcast to mark the Easter celebration, said: “Today, as we join the world to celebrate this amazing and defining story of selfless love, hope, and renewal, my wife, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel and I share the joy of Easter with all Akwa Ibomites and residents of Akwa Ibom State.
“The reason for this season, therefore, is that we should show love to one another irrespective of our cultural or political leanings. We should not allow political differences come between our bonds of brotherhood.
“As the political season dawns on us, let us play politics with a human face, let us not see and regard politics as blood sport. We have enjoyed peace in this state. Let us be reminded, as I have always said, that politics will come and go, but our common essence will remain an enduring attribute of our shared identity. “
Governor Wike in a statement, said Easter exemplifies the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ to save mankind, noting that as individuals, Christians must take into consideration the welfare of others.
He called on the people of Rivers State to re-dedicate themselves to the service of the state as they reflect on the ideals of Easter.
He said Easter is a period of fresh beginning, forgiveness, love and friendship. The governor urged the privileged to reach out to the less privileged as everyone works to deepen the culture of true Christianity.
On his part, Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Dennis Otu, congratulated Deltans in particular and Nigerians in general at Easter, urging the people to make sacrifice for peace and tolerate one another always.
“There is no sacrifice too much for peace. I want to use this opportunity of the Easter celebration by Christians all over the world to call on Deltans to sustain the prevailing peace in the state so that we will continue to enjoy the smart agenda of Governor Okowa.”
Mr Ovuozourie Macaulay, on his part, said the consciousness surrounding Christ’s death marks a new beginning and renewed hope for Deltans, Nigerians and Christians all over the world.
Macaulay in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr Iteveh Ekpokpobe, said that “the essence of the season is for Christians and Nigerians to reflect soberly on their past failures and challenges to forge the path for a better nation.”
