2000 A-Ibom residents benefit from Edmark’s skills acquisition scheme

By Chioma Onuegbu
AKA ITIAM—OVER  2000 Akwa Ibom residents have been trained and equipped with right skills to create business ventures and become independent and successful entrepreneurs by Edmark Group of Companies.

A skills acquisition and vocational training centre

Mr. Samuel Ogbonna, Marketing-Officer-in-charge of Edmark, who made this known to Niger-Delta Voice, NDV, during the 2018 Edmark Expo held at Helema Event Centre, Aka Itiam, Uyo, explained that all distributors of Edmark products are trained to enable them become self-reliant and successful.

“Once you register as a distributor of Edmark healthy living products, you must undergo one month training to equip you with the right skills and knowledge to become better network marketers. So far, we have approximately 2,180 trained distributors in Uyo.

Financial liberty

“And with the initial success of the first Edmark Expo in Uyo in November 2015, coupled with overwhelming demand for an encore, the Expo finally returned to Uyo. Edmark Expo is a concept of exhibiting the opportunity the company offers to all Nigerians to reclaim and maintain their health through weight loss, a path towards financial freedom and a means to better their lives,” he said.

A beneficiary of the business opportunity offered by the company and primary school teacher from Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Mr. Moses Akpan in his testimony at the event said since he joined Edmark, his standard of living has changed positively.

Tough past

“I was struggling as a classroom teacher to make a better living. I did not have a house of my own; I could not afford money to buy my own car. I had a motorcycle but sometimes I trek to work because I cannot afford N500 to fuel the tank because my salary was not enough.

“But  in 2011 when the former governor, Godswill Akpabio, banned the use of motorcycle within Uyo, I cried because that was my means of transportation to work even though it was taking half of my salary every month. My house was quite a long distance from where I teach.

“Along the line, somebody introduced me to business opportunities offered by the company and after I saw that it is a genuine company, I decided to join. When I joined, my friends were laughing at me.

Change of fortune

“I joined the business with N18, 000, as at that time. In fact, I did not have that amount then because things were hard, so I had to borrow from three different people.

“I joined as a distributor and later qualified as a manager after six months. In the 7th month, I bought my first car and now I am waiting for my official house from the company which I am working hard to merit.

“All you need to be successful is hard work, commitment and honesty. I do the business on part time so it does not disturb my teaching job. You will agree with me that things are very tough today, but if you have extra income from somewhere else to complement your salary, you make your life better. I can tell you that even this part-time business gives me better income than my salary,” he said.

Discontinue hunt for white collar job

Continuing, he expressed worry that many unemployed Akwa Ibom youths these days prefer politicking which does not improve their living condition instead of embracing such business opportunities.

“I don’t know why people go into politics where they will make enemies. In fact, when I see young people roaming the streets, I feel for them. They are looking for white collar jobs that are not there. Even low income earners can make a difference by having additional business to what they are doing because your salary cannot take you anywhere,” Akpan advised.

A participant at the Expo, who identified herself as Miss Uduak said: “This is my first time of attending this product and business awareness programme. A friend informed me about it. Since I graduated from school three years ago, I am yet to get a job so when I heard about the business opportunities, I decided to attend today.

“And from what I have seen here today, I think I am excited, I am encouraged to become a distributor of the company’s products. I enjoy doing business. I am tired of staying idle.

“When I listened to some people’s testimonies today on how they started with small money and where they are today, I am encouraged. You can see that I am already dancing.”
