Town planners canvass urban transition

The chairman, Abia State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, NITP, Nelson C. Nwaosu, has called on the federal, state and local governments in the country and urban planners in the built environment to take holistic view on urban transition with a view to promoting healthy urban development.

The urban planners spoke at the 25th Silver Jubilee Anniversary of Abia State chapter of NITP with the theme: Jubilee of Urban Transition, with foundation-laying ceremony of its secretariat road work, book launch and anniversary lecture.

In his remark, Nwaosu called on all urban planners to imbibe innovative planning and governance strategies to create more liveable, sustainable, equitable, healthy and productive cities. “In the planning and designing of new communities, housing projects and urban renewal, the planners in both private and public sectors need to give explicit consideration to the kind of world that is being created for the young generations who will grow up in these settings”’.
