WARRI—A 10-man committee saddled with the responsibility of acquiring suitable location, producing architectural/structural design, sourcing for finance and constructing a modern fire station around the Ubeji-Ifie axis in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, within six months has been inaugurated.
The committee, which has Secretary to Warri South council, Mr. Oribioye Uwale as Chairman, comprises the Head of Delta State Fire Service, Warri, Mr. Francis Tamigbe, the councillor representing Ubeji Ward in Warri South council Legislative Arm, Ogbitse Victor, Warri South Council Supervisor for Environment, Patricia Edun, representatives of Ifie community, Pinnacle and Shafa Oil and Gas and the Head, Safety and Environment, Matrix Energy, Mr. Fredrick Olomuro, who will serve as secretary of the committee.
Performing the inauguration at his office, Chairman of Warri South council, Michael Tidi, noted that the committee also has the task of recommending qualified personnel to man the facility on completion.
He said that the essence was to “see how a modern fire station can be built in that area (Ubeji-Ifie).”
It will be recalled that a truck conveying product exploded last year in Ubeji, destroying property worth millions of naira, while another truck recently collapsed at the Ubeji-Ifie axis which currently has no existing fire fighting station.
